There’s no single magic number, but for most Sydney drivers a wash every one to two weeks keeps a car looking good and protects the paint.
How often you need one depends on where you park, where you drive and what lands on your car. Here’s a simple guide.
The quick answer
| How you use your car | Suggested wash |
|---|---|
| Daily driver, parked in a garage | Every 2 weeks |
| Daily driver, parked on the street or under trees | Every 1–2 weeks |
| Uber, taxi or work vehicle | Weekly |
| Weekend car | Every 2–4 weeks, or after each long drive |
For most of these, a Foam Wash is the right everyday choice — it’s gentle on the paint and includes a vacuum inside.
Things that mean you should wash sooner
Bird droppings, bugs and tree sap
These are the big ones. Bird droppings are acidic, and in Sydney’s summer heat they can start to mark the clear coat within days. Bugs and sap are similar — the longer they bake on, the harder they are to remove without polishing. Wash them off as soon as you can.
Salt air and beach trips
If you live near the coast or spend weekends at the beach, salt and sand settle on the paint and in the wheel arches. A wash after a beach trip stops that grit from scratching the paint and helps keep corrosion away from the underside.
Rain
It sounds backwards, but rain makes cars dirtier. Raindrops collect dust and pollution on the way down, then leave it behind as they dry. If your car looks spotty after a shower, that’s why.
Construction and road dust
Busy roads and building sites coat cars in fine dust that dulls the paint and builds up on the windows. Heavy traffic adds a greasy road film that a quick rinse won’t shift.
Pollen season
In spring, pollen can leave a yellow-green film on the car — especially if you park under trees.
Don’t forget the inside
The interior gets dirty too, especially if you carry kids, pets or passengers:
- Every week or two: vacuum and wipe the dash and console (our Foam Wash includes a vacuum)
- After spills: deal with them quickly before they stain
- Once or twice a year: a full interior shampoo of the seats and floor removes built-up stains and smells
Signs your car is overdue
- Water no longer beads on the paint
- The paint feels rough when you run a clean hand over it
- You can see a film on the windscreen at night
- The wheels have turned grey or brown from brake dust
If the paint feels rough even after a wash, it’s time for a hand polish, which includes a hand clay to remove bonded contamination.
Make it easy
The easiest way to keep up is to wash whenever it suits you. At White Diamond there are no bookings, and two locations never close:

- Belmore — Canterbury Road, open 24/7
- Guildford — Rawson Road, open 8am–10pm daily
